Munich Brain Day 2026

The one-day event aims to bring the Munich neuroscience community together, fostering the exchange of ideas and catalyzing innovative interdisciplinary research. The format raises the profile of early-career scientists, with a particular emphasis on increasing diversity.

In addition to 20-minute short talks, students and postdocs had the opportunity to present their work in a datablitz and poster session. Lucrative prizes went to the best posters. As in previous years, the event was oversubscribed.

Once again, the event was held in the T-building at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence in Martinsried and ended with a social event.

The Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences (GSN-LMU) awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof. Matteo Carandini (UCL Faculty of Brain Sciences) in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to understanding neuronal processing in the neocortex and his role in advancing electrophysiological methods and international research collaboration.

The certificate was presented together with a laudatio by LMU Vice-President and GSN Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Benedikt Grothe. Carandini subsequently delivered a keynote lecture titled The Odds of a Decision, sharing insights from his Cortexlab research.
